Tuesday, April 29, 2025, Today, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller praised the U.S. Department of State’s announcement regarding negotiations between the Trump Administration and Mexico. These discussions have resulted in an agreement aimed at better addressing the water needs of Texas farmers and ranchers in line with the 1944 Water Treaty. Given the extensive assistance our federal government offers Mexico to combat this issue, collaborative efforts should be mutual. The escalating threat just south of our border, exacerbated by Mexico's barriers to our response teams and equipment, now presents a serious and urgent risk to Texas and American agriculture. Monday, April 14, 2025, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have agreed to provide $280 million in grant assistance to agriculture producers with irrigation water rights along the Rio Grande River. This grant offers economic relief to producers affected by water shortages due to Mexico’s failure to fulfill obligations under the 1944 Water Treaty. Monday, April 7, 2025, The Endangered Species Act—once a vital tool for genuine conservation—was twisted into a weapon against rural America by the Biden Administration and their radical 30x30 land grab agenda. Time and again, I’ve fought back against their reckless misuse of this law—whether it was the listing of the Lesser Prairie Chicken, the proposed expansion of the Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge, or the current proposed listing of the Monarch Butterfly. These heavy-handed decisions blatantly disregarded the successful, voluntary conservation efforts led by Texas landowners, ranchers, and energy producers. The 88th Texas Legislature established the first Friday in April as Texas Fruit and Vegetable Day in 2023 to promote consumption of local produce during the month; the Legislature established April as Texas Fruit and Vegetable Month in 2007.
